Has anyone put an air-ride system on a maverick yet. I haven't seen or heard of one yet. I am looking at getting a 3/season daily driver Mav to replace my 86 GT Mustang (gonna use my 5.0 and T-5). I have always looooooowered my mavericks (I guess slam is a better word), but now I am a little older and don't care for the harsh ride. But hey you still gotta look cool. I have had a little experience with airbags on a customer car (I install high end audio systems) and liked the flexibility. A bolt on kit would really hit the spot but I am not opposed to welding anything either. any info would be great. Thanks.
Up to just a short time ago there are air bag/shock combinations that might be adaptable but are in my opinion very pricey in the 7 to $800 range for just two units. As you see in my sig., My Lincoln has air suspension. To do a full auto control would get into quite a job. The Lincoln style bag is quite large in diameter to fit the confines of the Mav. There are height sensors to mount at the front and one in the rear. A pump/air dryer assembly and a tank plus a control module. Other issues would be to up grade you alternator and battery size because the pump draws a lot of current when they run. You can go manuel for fill and eliminate the height sensors and control module but the rest would still be needed unless you fill to desired level from an access point for each bag then that would eliminate most of the rest except for fill lines. Depends on how elaborate you want to get. The Mustang II front conversion has air bags now as an option from the Hot Rod shops but you will be looking at $2500 plus before you done. Got spare money laying aroung?
Blown76Mav, I assume the rear leaf springs come out and you can use a 4-link/panhard bar and the airbags for springs with a custom mount. With bolt-on front spring/shock replacement airbag setup it doesn't seem too difficult (although time consuming). As far as electrical upgrades for the compressor goes, I've got that covered- been doin' that for 15 years. Thanks Guys
Thanks Blown76Mav for the web site info, that's what I'm looking for. Looks like high quality products.
