Ok, my dad gave me a 1972 Mercury Comet, (V-8, 302, ) which had been on fire 3 times before (I think the float in the carb had been sticking, so it spit out gas, anyway.. )

It burned off the ignition wiring, most of the vacuumm lines, and distributor cap (and wires, )
I've rewired the cap and sparkplug wires, but I was wondering, that large group of wires on the drivers side (coming through the firewall, to the front, ) is that on a harness that I can just swap out?

If so, where could I find one? I've crawled the nearby wrecking yards and have found only 1 comet (an I-6,) and the wiring harness didn't look right.

    Thanks for any help,

You can change out the entire front wiring harness. However there is some differences in the plug where it plugs into the firewall. All you need is to find one with a plug like yours and it will work. The only difference between the 6cyl and 8cyl is the wires that go to the coil, temp, and oil sending units. They come out at different locations. It would be easy to extend these few wires. Also The grill lights may be different. Does the Comet have lights under the bumper?

*BUMP* (with a crappy pic, sorry, I'll get better ones tomorrow)

(Sorry about the crapiness of the pic, I was actually in the midst of getting pics of the power steering bracket/mount for a friend, who's working on a similar car, so he'd know how it was put together. )

You can see how the wiring harness is burned up (Like I said, I'll get some better pics tomorrow, time allowing, )

Yup, it looks like a winner,

I'll pull the old one off tomorrow and get a pic of it, to be sure they match, if so, we'll have to swap info.

Since you're parting that car out, what else is availible off of it?

    Carb? Kickdown lever? Throttle cable?

    Hey,

You still got that wire harness?

I've gone looking for others, and short of simply rewiring the car by hand, I've got no choice but grab that from you.

Hey, how'd you get that harness to seperate from your firewall???????

I found a Maverick in a junkyard, couldn't get the damned thing out, and finally wound up breaking the f*cking thing...:(

(Not to sound stupid, or anything, folks, but I HAVE been working on cars all of 1 1/2 years, so whaddya expect, expertise? )
