i just got a set of aluminum mags for the comet,i payed 75 bucks for all 4! there in good shape but dose enybody have ideas on how i can polish them to look like croam! i tried magnum polish but they arnt shiny,i spent three hours and it just looks like clan aluminum
If their too far gone you almost have to sand them with really fine sandpaper then buff them with compound, or have them buffed at a wheel shop. Some wheels have a clear coat on them also, post a pic it might help.
it dosent have a clear coat on them but they are anson sprints 14x7 slotted mags. i bufed them and they shined a bit .
Try the Mothers brand polish. If that dosen't make them shine, then they have some sort of coating on them.
iv herd that stuff works good ,but i herd about this deep blue stuff has eny body tryed it? and would it be ok to sand blast the rims to get some of the scraches out?
ultra fine steel wool dipped in mothers going the same direction as the grain in the wheel and lots of time. As long as there not coated.I did a set and they really looked good but it did take forever.
this is what they look like and there in the same shape as these too i just want them to look like seths but i dont know if his are croam? pluss i need center caps! havnt a clue where to get those
Get the Mothers PowerBall and their Powermetal Polish. I have the PowerBall Mini and it works great as long as you stay away from sharp edges. Saves a lot of time. Also some of those wheels had a machine finish. It will look like fine lines in the wheel surface created when they were turned on a lathe. If it is like that, you will need to sand them and then polish them.
yup your the winner! they were machined. i was wondering about that.pluss i herd that power ball tingy works great!
I use phosphoric acid diluted with water. Wet the rim, spray with acid solution, let it sit for about 10 mins. Don`t breath in the smoke ! Then I use 0000 steel wool going the same direction as the grain. Rinse to neutralize the acid. Then to top it off I use a high temp clear coat. You can get the acid at any HVAC supplier, it`s used for cleaning AC condensor coils. I buy the gallons ($45.), it is also available in spray cans (cheaper) Works like a charm.
If they are pretty bad you're probably gonna have to use sandpaper first. The pro's use a buffing wheel mounted on a stand ... they start with the course polishing compound and then progress down to the fine jewelers rouge for a chrome like finish.
You can also use EagleOne Mag Cleaner which is also a acid based solution. I was shown this my a wheel polisher he uses this but he cuts it 50/50 with water. Spray it on let it set for 5 minutes and wash it off. Never put this type of cleaner on a coated wheel! But since they are machined wheels you will need to sand them smooth if you want them to polish out to a high luster.
