Anyone know why Ford moved the side-view sport mirrors on the Maverick further back after the '70 model year?...
? Mine work just fine. Some years ago we were looking at the line of Mavericks at Carlisle Ford Nationals and saw there were three different locations for sport mirrors on our cars.
Its a Maverick, Its best to just not question some things... I am short, I find the stock mirror location is lacking. As for there being three locations.. It probably has a lot to do with where the car was built as well as what day of the week it was built on... Industry standard were well...Not so standard back then...
Here is a tech article showing how I finally decided to place mine .... http://mmb.maverick.to/resources/moving-sports-mirrors-forward.198/ I think the mirror placement came down to how they looked on the car when looking at the whole car at different angles. Get them too far forward and they look like Dumbo Ears when looking at the car 3/4 from the front. Somebody at Ford Design might have seen something similar and ordered a change. Guessing the change wasn't "well executed". I am pretty happy with where I ultimately placed mine. They are definitely in a position to actually work better and they tuck in well with the style lines of the car.
But the Mustangs had them more forward (closer to the A-pillar) just like the '70 Grabber. I would have moved mine forward but since my car came from the factory with the sport mirrors, that's one part I didn't want to change...
There was also a difference in location between the 70 and 71 Torino's on placement of sports mirrors. So Ford was definitely doing some funky stuff. If you dig far enough, it was probably some Federal rule that changed.
