I need to get the bolt that holds the turn signal on the small bumper 70 off. One of them was so rusty that the head twisted off and left the rest. The other bolt looks like it semi melted, looks like a six sided raindrop. Nothing will fit on it, standard or metric. I'm about to take a hammer and flathead screwdriver to it, but I'm a klutz and would probobly kill my radiator too! Any ideas?
rusted bolt Hey Rudy, if you have access to a die grinder with a cutoff wheel, that works the best. I had to cut the head off mine and drill the rest out. You can also cut two grooves in the shape of a X and then use a hammer and chisel to cut the head off. Hope this helps.
Just my 2 bits.... For the "melted" I would first soak it in WD 40 or something like that, and then try to get the whole bolt out with vise grips or something. Seems it would be easier than drilling out the whole thing after breaking the head off, but without seeing it it might be easier to break it. I don't know if this helps or not, but I thought I would put it out there. -Corbin
rusted bolts I have found 2 products that work well for loosening rusted bolts, Liquid wrench and Kroil. Soak them and wait for about 1/2 hour then try to take them off. Another method that works with rusted bolts/nuts is to use a center punch or drift pin and hit it with a small ball pien hammer to shock the rusted bolt/ nut to break the rust. As a last resort, if the good ideas mentioned in the other replys don't work, is to drill the center of the bolt and use and easy-out type tool to get a grip and back it out.
