Whatever happened to "Paulie" and Ron S. (Ron Stevens)?? Are they still around? I've been away for too long...
Hey T.L. good to have you back. Paulie had so many problems with her car she finally had to sell it. I think one day she will own another one...maybe when she can buy one thats in better shape to begin with. I dont know the story on what happened to Ron.
Dang...I didn't thnk she would ever part with that car...after saving it from the crusher and even swaping in a V-8. Oh well, maybe she'll come back someday...
welcome back TL dunno what happened to Ron either,,, seems the old original bunch has kinda faded away, including John Ford. I dont post much anymore but still visit everytime I fire the puter up. Dan
Nicky The other mav was named Nicky, I am pretty sure she sold that one while she still had Alice. If I remember right Nicky was a total piece of %*^$. Oh yea, TL they got proof that there were Shelby Mavericks. My mav looks more like a Shelby than the real Shelby, but hey, I have better taste too.
Hey Rudy, your Mav has come a long way since I last saw pics of it. Lookin' good. I remember the whole "Shelby Maverick" discussion way back when. I remember saying I'd believe it when I see it. They were Mexican Mavericks, right?...
Rudy, you and Charlie had pics of the Shelby's, right? I know I saw some, some 70's models/chicks hamming it up in front of a Shelby Comet or Shelby Mav with a Comet hood...
Here is the link for pics of the shelby mav but don't get your hopes up, it's kinda lame. http://www.maverick.to/shelby.html The only differences I see are a comet hood, comet grill, hood tach, spoiler, and rear window louvers. Someone (?JohnB?) said that they almost made it to production in America but someone blew the engine in the prototype when they went to drive it. 300 were made in Mexico.
Well, I never left!! Just could not log on to this site. I could read all the post, but never could reply. But, thanks to Stefan, he took the band off of me! LOL just kidding! So anywho! Hopefully Stefan will not bar me from the board and I can post from time to time. ha! ha!
Hope you don't mind my jumping into the discussion. It was me who reported the story on the Shelby Mavs being considered for production. I found myself, at a wedding reception, sitting next to one of the 6 or 7 engineers (now retired, of course) that Ford had flown down to evaluate the prototype. Unfortunately when they got there the one mule had the engine blown. Whether or not that's why they didn't go for it, he didn't say....only that the car didn't meet they're "standards". By the way, I found the Shelby Mav pics you are referring to by emailing Rick Kopec of the Shelby American Club (probably got the club name wrong---sorry). He had referred to them in his Shelby Registry, but not included any pictures. When I asked him he came thru with the pictures you see posted on Stefan's site as well as the article that he has re-copied and posted as well, on Shelby de Mexico, the firm that built those cars. I must admit that I was disappointed when I saw what they looked like. I call it the J.C.Whytney look...too many bolt-ons, not enough built-ins. I'm building my own '73 Mav as a phantom of how I think the Shelbys would have looked had they been built in the U.S., trying to incorporate styling cues from the Shelby Mustangs as I go. I look forwards to sharing the results with all of you some day. Hopefully it will be "worthy"!!! Later. John B.
