I saw a white 1966 Ford Thunderbird at work yesterday. I always kinda liked the 64 Thunderbirds, but the 66 really stuck out to me, and I like them! Never got to talk to the guy who owned it but I just have to see if anyone on here likes them. I may be putting this on my wish list! Although I heard somewhere that the 390 engines they had weren't any good... is that true?
My father-in-law has a '66 Thunderbird. I think it is also a 390. I am supposed to do some work on it now that I think about it...
I loved the style of the 60's T-Birds and I really liked the interior designs. The only thing that I thought was really wierd about them was, having that really big fancy center console, the car still had the shifter on the column
I had a 64 bird with the 390 when I was in the navy...Great engine, neat car. The vacuum operated parking brake still worked when you slid the steering column over to get out of the car. Too bad it was the only interrior device that still worked besides the speedo and guages. The poor car was used out and up by the time I got it.
Had a couple of 58 birds in my younger years. Love them all up to the 66. Not too crazy about them after than.
Vary cool cars. Saw several for sale yesterday at a swap meet. I like the 390's Ford used a bunch if them in the 60's cars.
The thin bumpers on the 1966 make it a standout from the 1964-65 'birds. I prefer this version with the rear quarter windows over the Landau version that is without rear side windows. 1966 Thunderbirds could have either the Z code 390-4V, or Q code 428-4V (passenger car 428) engines.
I agree about the quarter windows. Just doesn't look right without them on the Landau version. I would hate to be sitting in the back seat of the Landau... Might get carsick lol! I've always liked the first generation Tbirds, but when I saw this one I was like WOW!! Nice lines! I love Mavericks and Comets, don't get me wrong... But I have to say I'd rather have one of these. And the funny part is they're on evilbay right now and they're not much more expensive than a Maverick or Comet in the same condition. Decisions, decisions...
390 are good engine i had one in my 66 mercury years ago alot of horsepower....wish i still had that car...nice looking Thunderbird good luck on your wish list
