Is there a battery tray available for a 1971 Mercury Comet that is long enough to accept a group 24 size battery? The tray in my car now is shorter and will only accept a group 22.
Auto Krafters sells a reproduction, but I don't know the measurements. I think that the 24F battery is 10.75 inches long. It's always a pain to get someone to pull something out of stock and measure it. But it's good to know that there is enough space for a 24F to fit. I think my present tray is just short of 10 1/2 inches in length.
Gimme a couple days & I'll measure mine. https://www.mmb.maverick.to/attachments/cometstartharness-jpg.126890/
The battery trays in both my 73 and 74 Comet are 10 1/2" x 6 7/8" and had group 24F batteries in both...... "What does group size 24F mean? The group size 24F designation refers to the Battery Council International (BCI) group number of the battery, which indicates the dimensions of automotive batteries. The dimensions of a BCI group size 24F car battery are 10.3 inches long by 6.8" wide and 8.9" high." David
So apparently the battery in my car now is NOT a true group 24 since it measures over 10 1/2 inches long. It looks like my current tray will accept a 24F. Thanks for the info.
