So - I ordered a fiberglass hood for my Ranger off ebay. The dip stick wrapped it in thin clear wrapping and sent it UPS ground. Those dip sticks accepted it and sent it :hmmm:

Of course, it's FIBERGLASS so the corners are chewed up.

Ill take it to my local paint and body in the morning to see what they say. In the mean time UPS billing is closed so I can't contact them about an insurance claim. So, all I can do 'till sun up is sit here in a stew with my thumbs up my arse...

What do yall think - Salvagable?

well, i know they make body filler with fiberglass strands, and they may make one especially for fiberglass, but so long as its just chips and such, i don't see why it shouldn't be repairable. but seeing as how its on the very edges, it may be hard to get the body lines exactly right. (but thats just me, i have absolutely no depth perception along with other vision problems. lol) but if you can get the body lines then yea. i just think itll be hard cause there's nothing to use to keep the filler spreader along the right line like there is on a dent in a metal hood. but im no body expert. just my amateur opinion.

Have you contacted the seller about a refund? I don't know about fiberglass - but I do know ebay - and what I would do if I were you is put in a claim with paypal for "significantly not as described" - you will get all your money back and the dipstick will get a lesson in proper packing. You did not buy a damaged hood and you should not have to accept one. And if the seller gives you crap about shipping insurance claim. Inform him that insurance is for the sellers protection - the buyer is protected through ebay/paypal.

JMHO - and ebays rules ..... :Handshake

If it is fiberglass it can be repaired.

Did you contact the seller? He is the one that needs to file the claim with the shipping carrier. Probably won't make a difference since it was not packaged correctly. The seller should be out the repair costs not you.

I haven't contacted the seller yet. I made a claim/filed a report through Paypal several, several years ago and didn't get a dime back. I believe the final reason was because the seller didn't have the funds in his Paypal account, so I am hesitant to contact this guy before I hear from my body guy and UPS. Don't want to scare him into removing the money from his account.

Again, that was a while back - Before Paypal had the "Buyer Protection" ads everywhere. I guess it works different now, and it's easier to get refunded?

Hmmmm - You're right though. Paid for a hood in refurbed condition, not damaged. Should I file the Paypal claim immediatly?

    Thanks Yall!

Any fiberglass is fixable by the right body man. The real question is why should you incur the expense for some other idiots mistake.:)

You should have filed the claim immediately upon receipt of the damaged hood. If you wait to long they can say you did it.

Yes - file now - they give the seller a chance to respond to the claim but will side with the buyer pretty much all the time. Use the significantly not as described option. It is way better protection now than a few years ago.

Last winter, I bought a used laptop for parts - cost around $100. It arrived all smashed up - complained to the seller with no reply - turned it into paypal and I had my money back in a few days - and I still had the laptop as the seller didn't want to lose more money on return shipping.

Thanks Yall! Got the ball rolling through the resolution center. Can't wait to see what the seller has to say.

To add to it - The dip stick somehow screwed up my address and the UPS guy couldn't deliever it. Had to drive 50 durn miles to the UPS hub and pick it up. The guys there were amazed that it even was allowed to ship in that condition. Pittyfull business practices from the Ebay seller.

Yes, paypal is great. I don't generally buy anything if they don't accept paypal, just for the protection. Contact paypal and let them do their job.

I'll bet UPS will not pay an insurance claim for that. It had insufficient packaging which is the sellers responsibility. I went through this several years ago with a poorly packaged item. You should not have to accept merchandise in this condition. I would put in a claim for a refund with paypal. He will have to battle it out with UPS but he will lose in the end.
