After many delays and much waiting, my beloved Maverick will be going into the body shop next Monday (if everything goes as planned) My ugly duckling will be transformed into a magestic beast of the streets! Can't wait. Just thought I would let everyone know, that soon another piece of Maverick Muscle will be back on the streets. I'll let you guys know how things go. -Corbin
hi corbin, looking forward to seeing the maverick soon. how did you make out with the tranny? i changed all the filters on the 73, (air, gas oil, pcv). will do the tranny after i get back from fallon, nev. next week. i'm leaving in 15 minutes. raced at tucson this last weekend, had a good time, won a little money and a tv in a drawing. finished 14th in points for the series. there was 153 cars in the class. most were all out race cars so i don,t feel to bad. there were 5 mavericks there. good luck at the body shop and i'm anxious to see it.
Thanks guys! Sounds like you had a great time, Don. The tranny worked out great. We had a buddy at a transmission shop rebuild the whole thing because it was worn out and tired. He also put a little kit in it, so it is not always hunting for gears. I also put new Taylor Pro-Series wires (135 degree boots; keep them off the headers), and a brand new Holley 4 bbl that we picked up for $125 at a swap meet! Just great now, and it actually drives! Compared to the old 302, this 5.0 is a kick in the butt! Thanks Jeremy, I am very pleased that I followed through myself. I knew I would because I love my car, but there are always the times where you wish you could just stop because it gets so overwhelming. I have literally messed with every part of this car in some way. The only thing I haven't touched is the rear axle....yet. Doing 98% of the work myself is the best feeling ever, and at 17, very rare. I don't personally know of anyone else who has restored their own car to their specifications. Not trying to brag, I am just telling my extreme happiness with my own accomplishments. What a great feeling...... Thanks for the support guys! -Corbin
Well, it's been a week, and the ol Mav is very different. Even more sanding has gone by, and the top has been fixed. It had a vinyl top, and was a little rusty under there. The couple little dents in the hood, quarter panel, passenger door, and rocker panel have been fixed, and now all that needs to be done is fill in some holes where the LDO trim used to be, and fix the rust in the lower passenger quarter, and the driver's floorboard. I think it will be there a few more weeks, and then I will probably get it back. Then it will go to an upholstery shop and have a headliner put in, then the glass will be put in and eventually tinted. I will put the Torq Thrusts on it, and then put in the rest of the interior myself. Should be fun. Getting excited... -Corbin
Alright! Sort of hard to tell how old someone is by just reading what they wrote, huh? Good thing people like us are around, because we have to keep the Maverick/Comet around for the "new" generations. It is getting harder and harder to do with all the rage with the imports all of a sudden. I wonder if there is anyone else younger than me here. If so, like expjames91 says, "Rock on!" -Corbin
yeah, but see..were cool, because we had a good upbringing, vehicle wise, and didn't get fooled into 4 cylinder madness...we can use beat the importers, and when we use NOS, we don't brake axles...lol
but we don't need NOS to beat em, because even our smallest engine are still 2 cylinders more then what they have...lol
well heres another seventeen year old. I have a 71 2 door mav was a straight six ,but put a 302 in. Does get overwhelming I am about ready to get rid of mine. one thing after another to fix. Drove it to town tonight turned it off and then it wouldn't start back. Guess that is just how it is with older cars. anyway talk to you later William
