The manuals from the 70s tell you how to remove the box. I wouldnt be suprised if a previous owner removed it. You can try and look for the old connector. Also the start button under the hood.

I seem to remember something about the 'yellow box' being first installed in 74, but not all 74s got one. Like a running change during the 74 model year.

It had to be later than Nov. 1, 1973 'cause I got the yellow box.

Here's a mystery for you...My 1973 Maverick was built in Canada on 07/73 and has a yellow seat belt interlock box under the dash , but no button (or even provisions , harness , ect...) for a button under the hood. Recently changed over from a 250 auto to a 347 5 speed and experienced random no start issues (no power to the solonoid on the red/blue wire). I bypassed the nuetral safety switch , still the same issue. Then by mistake I discovered when my wife was in the passenger seat it would not start , but when she got out , it would! we disconnected both connectors to the sensors in the seat , now it starts every time! completely opposite of what guys with 74's are reporting. Is my Canadian built 1973 an early version of the interlock system? Just curious if anyone else has experienced this...
