I'm getting to the point where I'll be ordering the Cal-Tracs for the Maverick.

    Two (maybe three) questions:

    1) Did you guys buy P/N 43012 for Calvertracing.com?
    2) If you have replaced the rear-end with a 9", did this cause any problems?
    3) Are there any 'lessons learned' that you could pass on to me prior to installation?

Thanks in advance, (Dave, Charlie, Mavaholic, Maverick Man, Ford Man, on others??)

That is the correct part # for our application. I had no problems installing them. You have to remove the front bushing out of your leaf springs so it might be a good time to replace the back ones too. You dont have to use a 9". The holes are elongated so it should work on either. Also depending on the type (if any) subframe connectors, you might have some slight interferance problems to work out. I had to use the bottom hole to avoid interfering with mine. Other than that, the only thing I didnt like is they put 2 shock mounts on the right side so they will work wether your shock is in front of the axle or behind. That way the same set is used for most Fords. Since ours is in front, the back mount sticks out like a sore thumb and looks dumb just sitting there. I cut mine off & sprayed some gloss black paint so it looks better.

I believe the mount is that way because not all mavericks have staggered shocks, I used the one Dennis cut off on my 1970.

Call Calvert and talk to them, he'll tell you everything you need to know. I never had a part number, he just asked me what I had, and he sent me a kit that worked great.

I run the Dan Starnes subframe connectors and I have no interference problems.

Wow, I did not know that. I've junked a couple of 70's and never notice the shock location. Are all 70's nonstaggered shocks?

    Shock Mounts

The three '70's I've been under were not staggered. In fact I sold a '71 rearend with springs attached to a guy with a '70 and he called me to tell me his discovery. He ended up swapping the one mount off of his old set up.

He even gave me his good 7.5" if anyone is interested. Ha! :D

My '70's shocks aren't staggered, so when I put in the 9" I used Mustang mounting plates.

The cal tracs work great, remember that if you are running multi leafs you need to clamp the front part of the leaf spring. If you want to take it a step farther replace all the rubber bushings with aluminum ones, that's what I did to mine, it's the best way to go for drag racing. To make the cal tracs work to there absolute best you need a good mono leaf spring, multi leafs tend to seperate under a "hard" launch causing the rear to lift which is not the direction you want the car to go......forward, not up!!!!:D

Flex-a-Form fiberglass mono leafs.....http://flex-a-form.com/ They also make a traction device but i've never had any experience with it. I am currently in the process of making aluminum bushings for my flex a forms, they come with real hard urethan but I wanted to take it a step farther. Probably would have left the urethane bushings in if I drove on the street alot. These springs have been popular on dirt track cars for years but can be seen alot in NHRA and IHRA SS classes. Landrum also offers a fiberglass mono leaf and Calvert Racing also offers a fibergalss spring, landrum makes them for calvert.

Just wondering, is the spring considered "unsprung weight"?

I DO have sub-frame connectors (home-made). I 'll probably have to do some 'adjusting' there. NP

I just got off the phone with "George" at FLEX-A-FORM (864-261-7006) regarding the price of the fiberglass mono leaf springs - $445/pair + S&H from 29621 SC.

They also have a 'torque arrester' traction system called "Flex-Track" for $300/set (they look very smilar to slapper bars ???)
    (see http://flex-a-form.com/images/flextrack.jpg)

quote: "Flex-Track produces up to thirty percent better starting torque while weighing less than ten pounds!" (my note: "30% better"- compared to what??)

Does anyone have any experience with this particular set-up and/or know how it performs (for comparison to the more popular Cal-Tracs" linked below)?

    Thanks for all your replies,

    Rick

NO, you don't want the traction device from George....it's good but that's not what you want.....definitely go with the cal tracs!!! I just noted the other traction device for informative purposes! The point I was making is that the mono leaf springs are the best to use with cal tracs so you have no leaf seperation, but the cal tracs can be used successfully with any leaf spring! Let George know that Stephen Moore referred you on the springs and he may give you a little $$ break!!
