I've got me a '87 roller and was wondering what is a good semi-radical or just radical cam? that I could put in it. Also where could I get a good & cheap rebuild kit for the longblock?
There are alot of variables to consider in cam selection. Your best bet would be to call a cam manufacturer with all the information about what your building, and what you want to do with it. They will help you get the right cam for your needs. I have delt with Comp Cams and they have been very helpful. My cam specs are 566/576 lift, 232/240 duration, 110 degree sepration. It is very streetable, idels well at 800 rpm, and sounds wicked. I built mine to run mid 12's. Cheap and good is an oxymoron. If you stay with a hydrualic lifter, your not going to rev much above 6000- 6500 rpm so a stock bottom end, if properly prepared, will work just fine. That is your cheapest way to go.
We have the E-303 cam from ford and it runs great, a little rumpity at idle and great Hp above 3000 rpm and we still get good gas milage too 18-26. Charlie Ping had the E and changed to the F-303 he would be a good person to talk to also. 10/1 compression, air gap mani, 600 holley vac sec, edelbrock RPM heads, roller rockers, windage tray, headman shorty headers, MSD box & coil, 5 speed and 3.73 gears
