I am trying to track down a rebuild carb for my 74 with 250 cid.
From reading up I guess there are three types of chokes: Vacuum, Electric, and Electric Assist.

Is there an easy way to tell the difference?

My carb number is a D4DE AAA maybe just this number will ensure I get the right choke (?).

    Thank you.

A electric choke will have a wire connected to the choke cap to provide voltage to the choke spring when the key is on. Many have a choke tube that screws onto the choke housing and runs down to the exhaust manifold. Some people may call this a vacuum choke but there is no vacuum involved. The exhaust manifold simply heats the air within the tube which then heats the spring within the choke cap. Simple and reliable. I would assume an electric assist is a combination of the two, but I have not seen one.

Thanks Jason, here is a photo of my carb. I'm guessing this is electric. Do you know the function of the solenoid valve below it near the plug wires? It is an electric solenoid but has vacuum tubes running through the body and up to the carb.

It's hot air, almost no domestic vehicle had electric choke before '76 or so...

so the solenoid just stops and start the flow of manifold air to the choke spring?

That is part of the Cold Temperature Activated Vacuum (CTAV) system. I don't have to get emission test each year so I removed it from my '74 along with latching relay, temperature switch and 3-way solenoid valve the plugged the vacuum hoses.

As Krazy Comet writes, you have a hot air tube choke on your car. Not electric.

The solenoid as rthomas771 points out, is part of the CTAV system controlling EGR and vacuum advance depending on whether or not air temperature inside the air cleaner is above or below 65 degrees F. It has nothing to do with the choke. The solenoid and its associated system is emissions related.

Just to try and clear things up a bit.

I used your part number on the NAPA site and came up with the carburetor at the following link:

Your pic is a RBS carb...Napa is showing a YF carb. All 250's came with RBS

I think this one is it.
I looked at the UREMCO site and they showed a part 7-7350 as a part for the D4DE AAA They don't sell direct but I saw Summit racing is a distributor but they were out of stock until August. I saw on this Autozone link you sent it is a number 7-7350 so it should work! Thanks!
I also found through a place called Carburetor specialists, he has two New Old Stock ones for $390 each, Wonder if these are better than rebuilt? Also his numbers didn't quite match up (DHPE AJA) but he said it is for the ford 250 1bbl.
Do these numbers have to match exactly?

If the NOS carb has been setting around for 30-40 years, likely it's rubber components are junk...

mine is like the one on the right, the fuel filter comes straight out and not at an angle.
