What happens when aluminum slivers are introduced into the carburetor? These slivers are in the area where the fuel filter attaches to the carburetor… is this are accessible by removing the air horn?

This problem arose when trying to replace the fuel filter… So this is what I’m faced with… the thread end of the fuel filter has broken off in the carburetor… leaving me with nothing… after some drilling… its still stuck in there… I was going to try a threading device… and an extractor… but my main issue is the aluminum slivers that will be left in the carburetor…
    Any help would be appreciated

I'm not sure what kind of carburetor you're talking about, and to be honest i'm not too familiar with the stock carburetors if that's what you're talking about.
It depends on the size of the thread how i would get it out. I am assuming it is a fairly small size thread. My favorite "trick" is to get a dremel and use a cut-off wheel to make a notch straight across the piece. Then, use a flat-head screw driver in the notch and it should come out fairly easily. Depending on where the fuel filter is, you might want to remove the piece it screws into and blow it out with carb cleaner or something. I doubt it will be too detrimental if there are a few slivers in there, they will most likely sink to the bottom of the bowl and stay there. Could be easily cleaned out with a rag.
Ahh, don't you just love it when something that is supposed to take 5 minutes ends up taking all day?

I have a stock Carb… I know it’s a MotorCraft 2 barrel… what would you recommend for a new 2 barrel carb? And if I were to take the air horn off, I could see the point where the fuel line goes through the filter and then into the bowl?
It’s a little more Painful here in the snow and chilly weather… if it only took 5min… if only

I'm really not that familiar with the 2bbl carburetors, but having said that, your fuel inlet most likely goes into the bowl, then goes out from there. If you don't drive the car every day, you might want to just pull the carburetor off and bring it in someplace warm to work on it. Better to take your time with it and get it right than to rush through it and risk breaking something. I wish i had a stock carb to reference to but i have no idea what you have to remove to get into that area.
