Drove past the scrap yard this morning and saw a horrible sight!! This is a place that does not sell parts from the cars, they grab them with the claw and shred them. Seeing this made me sick! This car is pretty much complete and looks solid! Whatever this was supposed to be, it's powered by a flathead V-8! This is a comet 4 door small bumper car. As it passed work last week I was able to see the rear bumper was very nice as was the valance. All these cars/parts are lost to the world. Once they pass the scales they are off limits!
What is that car in the fist pic?? The solid looking one. It has beautiful lines. I'm no too good with that era. What a waste!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not sure what it is, the gates were locked or I would have been in there checking it out. From what I could see there were a lot of salvageable parts on that car if it couldn't be saved. The truck under it was complete from the cab forward and looked to be mid 30's. Stuff around here really doesn't rust that bad so I'd bet they were all fairly solid.
Fools! That coupe is worth 1500-2000 like it sits! Looks like a 37-38 Pontiac or Olds. I can't understand the stupidity of some people!
I saw the same kind of deal today. Damn shame! Id say if scrap stays high we will see more of this stuff.
Not worth that to the owner of the yard, apparently. He probably had it sitting on the lot for 20 years with nobody interested in it. So to him, it is worth $60 shredded and cut to scrap and sold to a steel recycler.
There have been a lot of farms cleaning up and scrapping old iron. Mostly farm equipment and used up old trucks without a single square inch of the sheet metal being straight. This is the first decent antique I have seen there. We also have a bunch of industrious Mexicans that are making some good money turning scrap, be it cars or just general scrap. I drive by one guys place on the way to work and he has two big flat beds he fills every two weeks and hauls them to the yard.
Nooo Thats sucks! Even seeing cars like that in a salvage yard is a crying shame! These beauties need to be restored and put back on the road where they belong!
Good news?? They were no where to be seen this morning. I was told there is a guy that works there that scoops up anything old that comes through so hopefully that's where they went.
