Hey I'm new to the forum and was wondering if anyone would have an idea of what a car would be worth. It's a 1971 Comet GT it's white with black striping. The body is in excelent shape a few dings but no rust with the original paint. It has a 10 point roll cage in it and has been mini tubed for larger rear tires. It has a brand new 289 in it that was built in 1995 but never ran except for starting and warming up to keep everything lubricated. I have heard it run and it sounds pretty mean open headers. It also has a new c-4 trans that was built around the same time. Any ideas of what this car is worth would be great. Thanks, Derek

    Derek,

Without seeing the car, it's hard to even give an estimate on how much it's worth.

I paid $2500 for a '70 Grabber rolling chassis - not mini-tubbed. Has 6 pt cage, C4, race seats (front), 9" rear, few other misc for strip. The car is virtually rust free and has a great interior.

The reason I gave that much for it was because a Maverick was the first thing I ran down the 1/4 mile (nostalgia value) and I also had a 347 c.i. engine to put in it. That and the fact it was the first year of production just sweetened the deal for me (I only found out later it was an even more rare Grabber).

Some folk may think I paid too much. I think it was fair.

What is the Comet worth? No matter if you're the buyer or seller, it's worth exactly.....whatever someone will pay for it.

I paid $2500 for my 71 comet gt. I think i paid to much for it but it is hard to find a rot free comet in PA. Every other maverick and comet i looked at was cheaper but needed quarters, floors, etc.
I agree with rick about it being worth whatever someone will pay for it. Just remember if it makes you happy .... its worth every penny no matter how much you pay
