Well it seams black is a 12v key on well i was tryign to fix all the wiring, everything works fine but just my gauges dont light up, like the gauges work but no light comes on..? whats the deal what happened and theres nothing undone and i cant see anything... help.. the cd player works great but like i said not dash lights?... werid

There's a wire down there that goes to the radio, it powers up the radio display backlights when you turn your headlights on.

Probably blew a fuse when you were messing around with stuff. Check your fuses (I don't envy you for having to do that! ;) )

There is only one fuse box. Every dash light problem I have had has had to do with the head light switch. Before doing anything, make sure the head light switch is rotated to the left, just before it clicks. If stil no lights, rotate it slowly back and forth and see if the dash lights flicker on and off. Did the lights work before swapping the radio?

:chillpill They are trying to help.

Go to www.maverickcomet.com and go to the Features section and select Wiring Diagrams. This should help you trace what the wires in question are.

Sounds like the plug on the back of your gauge cluster isnt getting good contact with the printed circuit that runs all the lights in the cluster. (I just had that problem on my 77) The gauge cluster may be dry rotted causing it to do that. Just a suggestion, I could be wrong.

Are you sure the light bulbs in the instrument cluster aren't all burnt out? The blue wire with the red stripe is the backlight circuit. Anything connected to that circuit will get powered up when the headlights/parking lights are on, and will get dimmed when you turn the headlight switch...

My guess is the same as one of the above. I bet it is in the headlight switch. When I rotate my headlight switch right and left to dim the dash lights there are a couple dead spots that cause the dash light to go completly out.

Try spraying some contact cleaner in the light switch and rotate it a couple of times. I think your having the same problem I had (a dirty switch). Just my two cents! Good Luck
