I have an unidentified line that exits near where the a/c lines come out of the firewall on the pass. side. It is a section of 3/8 rubber hose which connects to a steel line that runs along firewai towards the drivers side and then shoots down under the car. Is this the fuel tank vent and shouldn't it be connected to some sort of charcoal canister? If so, any ideas on where to get one? Bought the car a few months ago and still working out the kinks. Thanks

Yes, it sounds like the vent line. Yes it should be connected to the canister that is mounted to the passenger side firewall. If it isn't there then I would recommend that you check the Pull-a-part yards or find one from a parts car.

Are the carcoal canisters really necessary? I find them to be very unattractive and they clutter up the engine bay even more. I took mine out a while ago. I can put it back in if they are needed.

it theoretically prevents the fumes from the tank from escaping into the engine comp. as the charcoal removes the vapors. i even recharged mine once by taking it apart and putting in new fish tank charcoal. theoretically you could go with a smaller one or remove it and just risk it. i dont know firsthand of anyone having an engine compt fire from it not being there....

I have used charcoal canisters. Email me directly (see below) if I can help.
