I have a 1970 Maverick with the 200ci. motor and it is missing the heat riser tube for the choke. Looking around the exhaust manifold I can only see one place where the tube may fit. There is a 1/4" hole on the top and in the middle when viewed from the side of the car about 1/4" away from where the manifold meets with the head. Is this the proper place to fit the heat riser tube?

    Yes...that is where it goes.

Thanks Craig. After we get two other critical problems fixed, we'll install the heat riser for the choke and get the choke properly adjusted.

I have the same issue except the tube is broken off right at the exhaust manifold. Anyone out there have the same problem and how did you fix it? I'm thinking I might have to drill out the stub and try chase the threads with a die. Otherwise I was thinking of plugging the manifold hole with some high temp epoxy and drilling new threads. My fitting at the end of the tube in entirely gone. I'd appreciate any ideas. Thanks.

The tube is simply pressed into the exhaust manifold....no threads. Put a nail in what is left of the tube in the exhaust manifold. Then place the end of the tube over the nail, using the nail to hold it in place. All the tube does is transfer heat to the choke.

you have the correct hole----I had a similar problem with my 70' missing the tube---so I made a new tube using 1/4" steel tubing and now my choke is working as it should----be sure to clean out any carbon deposit from the "hole" before installing a new tube----good luck--
