I bought a 65 6-bolt bellhousing for my 72 Maverick and Toploader install so it had the wrong type of Clutch Fork Bracket. I bought a 1968-73 bracket which should be correct. However, the slot in the bracket is too small for the entire clip on the back of the fork to go in. Am I correct in thinking that the clip should go completely into the slot on the bracket?? It almost appears that the bracket should pivot on the indentation in the fork directly in front of the clip towards the bottom in the pic below. Since this is a C4 to Toploader swap I have no idea what it should look like installed. Any help or pics would be appreciated. Here is the picture showing the the slot in the bracket is too small for the clip to go in. The part number on the fork is D0DA-7515-B. The Bracket was purchased at a Mustang parts dealer and the Ford Shop Manual shows every 72 Ford with a 302 used the same one.

    Thanks - Dan

Is it possible that the clip on the fork is broken and should be much longer??

You are correct in that the fork should pivot on the slot under the clip. (see picture) I have seen at least 4 different mounting/pivot arangements over the years. I guess its just a mater of getting the correct 2 components together. If everything is out of the car still, you can bolt the trans up to the bellhousing and make sure the pivot point in the bellhousing and clutch fork line up correctly. then just shave the clip down till it fits in the slot. Its only function is to hold the fork in place till the clutch linkage is hooked up.

Thanks - I have the correct bracket and fork - just that I didn't realize that the clip was broken. The bracket in my top photo is correct for the fork in the bottom photo. The fork in the picture is correct for a 1970 Mustang and Torino and is also correct for all 302 Mavericks ... Dan
