Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any advise for a header gasket at the head? I'm running Victor Jr aluminum heads on a 351w in my Mav and want to keep changing out blown gaskets to a minimum. I have heard different schools of thought regarding copper gaskets with aluminum heads, some say never to use them as the materials don't jive, others say they would use nothing but copper gaskets. Can the two materials be used together without any problems. Any help would be great, thanks.
on my 351w used part number 66014 Percy's High Performance Header Gaskets did not blow out but only had about 150 miles on them.but when i removed them i would bet i could reuse them they hold up real good http://www.percyshp.com/66sbforrnd22.html
I think the only reason you would want to use a copper gasket would be to lower the volume in the combustion chamber . As far as sealing well I have had wayyyyyyyyyyy more trouble with copper gaskets then I ever did with something like Felpro . I dont know what the most popular gasket around is . Most of them are around .030 to .040 thick nowadays
I have a set on our bracket car. They work very well if the header flanges is slightly warped or the head is not perfectly flat. They also work if you can't get all the bolts in...like mine. I have 6 bolts per side, 2 missing from each one and they still seal fine for the most part. No complaints here...Oh and I've used them on 3 different engines. Good luck
