The old school saying is "You can't outrun a Motorola". I remember folks saying that before I knew what the heck they were talking about. That said, I have used the 'get off at the next exit' trick a few times with some luck. The trick is to get ahead far enough to pull it off, and make a quick secession of turns to stay out of his line of sight. You have to make the decision to do it instantly though. If you hesitate or let him get up to highway speed before deciding, you're too late.
