Well, I'm new here. Got a 70 maverick last week for $300 and found out it was a grabber (didnt' know they had them in 70 until i checked this place out).

Anyway, this is a little project for me and my dad. It runs and drives excelent and the 250 has quite a bit of pep. However, it has the usual cowel leaks and rusted floorpans as a result.

My questions are: IF i block off and patch the vents, will it harm anything else other than air circulation in the car? I'm not really worried about that, however I have gotten the idea of repairing the pannel and putting roll-on bed liner to keep it from rusting again.

Also, is there a place I can get replacement floorpans for this thing, or am I pretty much stuck to buying sheet metal and working it in myself?

    Thanks.

No replacement floor pans are produced for the Mavs. You could work with sheet metal to fix the problem, but I would suggest finding a doner Mav/Comet to cut the floor pans out of.

Blocking off the vent will help but still not keep all the water out of the cowl area. The wiper arm holes and under the windshield molding are channels that dump the water in the cowl. Plus the holes for the hood seal will allow some water in. Depending on how bad your floors are, using sheet metal is really pretty easy and cheap.

MavMark at maverickcomet.com did a cowl repair and is willing to give the finer points on it to anyone needing the info. Get in touch with him there. He's the webmaster, if you aren't aware. Dennis is right on about the floorpans. A donor car is your best bet on replacement.
