I was looking at my 302 engine this morning while it was warming up and I noticed the crank pulley was a bit out of round while turning. Like a tire that's out of round. The harmonic balance is turning smooth so I know it's just the crank pulley that's not correct. I do notice a slight vibration in the motor when driving. Could this be the culprit causing that? What's the best way to correct this issue? More over, what could have caused this? Thanks.
AFAIK unless mount holes are slotted and the inner opening is larger than locating lip on harmonic balancer, it has to be mfgr'd incorrectly or bent... It's fairly common to find ham fisted, shade mechanics who have hammered off the harmonic by beating on pulley... All this said, likely only fix is replace pulley...
The wobble on the pulley is like a tire that has a high spot on the tread side which would make the tire jump up and down when rotating. It's not warped like a bent rim. The pulley came off the original 302 that came with the car. It was installed on the new 302 prior to installing the motor. It's just the first time I noticed it.
Either the bolt holes for pulley or balancer are off center, again that's going to require the center opening is out of spec as well...
