Ok, here is the story of my 66 chevelle SS. I went to a engine shop to have my engine rebuilt, they did and all was great. I had a hard time adjusting a the timing, but after that it ran great. Well today I was coming back home and the engine locked up on me. I get it home by trailer. Only a few blocks away! And looking to see what happened. Well I can't turn the engine over by hand and its locked up. I then look at the oil on the dip stick, and its clear full of prestone and water. So something came loose and destroyed the block. Now I haven't even put 75 miles on this engine, so I went down to the engine shop that did the engine overhaul. And they are no longer in business!!!!! Only a month has gone by???? So now I'm trying to contact my lawyer friend to see what I can do. By chance does anyone have a 66 matching numbers block that they are trying to sell? So I can redo this mess! Lucky I still have my trusty maverick to get me around.
Oh jeez, sorry to hear about that, had a similar problem with a transmission, after about a month, the thing lost 2nd gear, when I went back, the place was boarded up.
Yes sir, sadly. It was an expensive lesson for an 18 year old haha Although I have heard of the BBB(Better Business Bureau) that deals in cases like this. I would recommend looking into that. Best of luck!
i dont think you have any recorse, unless they have just moved. have you taken the motor appart yet? theres a small chance that the block is still good.
Sorry to hear about the mess. Unless it locked up and made a bunch of noise the block could still be good. Could have been caused by poorly installed intake gaskets. Regardless it sounds like another rebuild. BTW there was only one matching numbers block for your car.
Sorry to say your money is gone. Im sure you can find an attorney who says they can help. Kind of like the guy who had perfect credit but the bankruptcy attorney said he could help. Anyhow even if you serve the guy he doesnt have to goto court, its a civil matter. Best case is that he doesnt show up and you win a default judgment. Winning in court is the easy part, collecting it wont be. Less than 3% of judgments end up collected, so who just made all the money in court. While you and the defendent are still mad, both attorneys are going out to have beers together. Like maverick1970 said, maybe some of the parts are salvagable. You probably wont know until you start tearing it down.
That sucks you got flamed for that. We are all car guys and we do own mavericks/comets but we all do have other cars. I like hearing about all cars myself. Ya, I'm going to find the owner and see what he will do for me. I'm going to try to tear it down this weekend or next week. So we will find out.
Maybe you got lucky and it just hydraulic'd a cylinder (not that that is all that lucky). For the most part unless a rod exited the block you can always sleeve it. Hang in there and let us know what happens!
Looks salvageable, but you won't know for sure till the piston is out. Worse case, a sleeve, a couple valves, maybe a rod. But the hard parts shouldn't be tough to come by. If you're really interested in keeping it numbers matching it looks like it can be done. Don't get me wrong, it won't be cheap and I'd be going ballistic myself...but good news is it looks repairable. I wonder what caused the whole thing? I wouldn't think that you would have just lost the valve head. Any of the other valves showing signs of touching the pistons? How long did it run badly before you shut it down?
Funny thing it was instant, it didn't run bad at all. Looks like a bad head, two other valves look like it was hitting the piston. Springs seem loose on the head, so I'm guessing that. And after I got the piston out there is a hair line crack in the cylinder wall. I don't know if that repairable or not. Time will tell I guess.
Put the stock engine under the work bench, save it all. Then go get a 502 Crate motor. More fun and you still can make it stock later.
