How much of a drop do you get in cutting one coil off the front springs? and will this affect the alignment in such a way that I would have problems keeping it aligned? Oh ya, it would be for a 70 Maverick with a I6 thanks in advance Glen
There can be numerous problems. Interestingly enough, there's an in-depth article in this month's Car Craft about cutting coils and how it needs to be done right...and what happens when it's done wrong. Alignment is a big concern as you change the suspension geometry when the coils are cut. Head to the newsstand and get a copy of the mag.
When first doing my car I cut a coil and a half out of the springs, I rebuilt the front end at the same time. I took it to a reputable alignment shop and they said that it lined up just fine, no problems. I drove the car for many miles after that and never had a problem. As far as I could tell it didn't have an effect on ride quality either.
I cut one coil, off the bottom of the coil. It lowered my car 3". Ride has not changed and I have yet to get it aligned. Was waiting till I thought I was happy enuff with the drop. Now that I am, I will have it aligned. I might add that I have not noticed any problem with alignment. Will have it aligned partly cause the last time it was aligned was 1980! Dan
