Just wanted to share this. I recently bought a hand operated hand shear for less than $100 and it's probably the best tool I've purchased. It cuts perfect lines and little to no distortion. Give one a try if you cut sheet metal much.
Used to use throatless shears for cutting sheet aluminum for aircraft fabrication...They are awsome. Just as great on steel too as long as you dont go past the guage recommendation for the tool. What is the max thickness for that shear anywhoo and who is the manufacturer, if I may ask...
TD Industrial. Cuts 20 gauge like it was paper. Here's the link I got mine at. http://www.ebay.com/itm/220766013342?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
I looked at the Beverly style shear that HF sells. It looked very low quality...actually like it might not even work. This one is very well made. The shipping is a deal too. It really weights alot.
I don't think that spec is right. Most of these style shears will cut 18 gauge steel and 16 gauge aluminum with no problem. I'm so pleased because all I've ever used to cut sheet metal is hand held shears and jig saws with a metal blade which distorted the metal. I trimmed a trunk drop patch panel in about a minute with this and the cuts were perfect. It will even do radiuses when the material is fed rear to front. Here's a demo of a similar shear made by Woodward Fab. I have several Woodward Fab tools and they are pretty good, but still China made. Better than HF though.
