Colton got a primered Maverick Kit for Christmas. We bought some dark red metallic paint and clear coat today and sprayed it ... got a hot spot on the hood .. ate the factory primer right off ... everything else came out smooth as glass ... gonna have to sand the hood and do it over ....

I'm guessing the primer wasn't adhered good there from the factory ... the primer pulled right off the metal only in that one spot ...

i was doing a FC gremlin a few months ago and after i painted it i has giving it some low heat from a blow dryer from really far away and the whole coat of primer under the paint lifted off of the steel. after i peeled it all off i was left with a clean steel body lol

I think the Automotive Lacquer from Duplicolor really softens whatever type of primer is on these cars. I was able to peel most of the paint and primer off the hood by hand. I sanded it down, primed and just finished painting it again. The body looks good right now ... gonna let it dry for a few days before we start putting it together. Also .. painted all the interior trim black.

Looks nice. What are the plans? Paint it red, add Grabber stripes, small bumper swap, put in buckets, and drop in a 302 - the usual, right? :)

WHERE CAN I GET ONE OF THESE!?!?! I have had NO luck finding a maverick model of any kind. I'm big into car models and always have been. Can you tell me what company made it at least? (That is if you don't know where it was purchased)

Oh. I only knew they made the hot wheels size ones. I just bought a smaller hot wheels scale one from Mavaholic. (waiting for it to come in the mail) I really have to get it in gear and track down one of the actual model ones. I just finished one of my few unassembled models and started thinking about finding a maverick one. Thanks for the info!

well I certainly know if you spray laquer over enamel paint it will bubble and eat through the enamel darn near every time. I have never seen enamel paint that could withstand laquer being sprayed over it

If that spot had happened on the cowl area, it would've been like a real Maverick!
