My car already had disk brakes. I am just wondering where you guys have bought the parts to rebuild them. I am trying to decide between just going the local parts chain way or something else. Cost is a factor but I don't want to give away quality either. I need to pretty much go through everything on the Comet. The front rotors are shon and so are the pade. So I figure I should replace the calipers and wheel bearings while I am at it. The rear drums are in about the same boat. The right rear ebrake has hung so it has gotten hot and I still haven't been able to figure out a way to get the drum off yet. I am thinking about drilling out the hold down pins and putting in all new hardware. Anyway suggestions and parts sources are welcome. I would really like to get the Comet safe to drive. I bet you thought that I was going to ask another conversion question
rockauto.com i also have had success with advancedautoparts.com or was it advanceautoparts.com eitheror is fine with prices
Yeah, Rockauto prices are hard to beat, sometimes their shipping costs seem a little high. New disc brake hoses at Rockauto = $20.79 each, at Advance = $ 29.65 each, same part number.
look in your phone book... advance auto parts stores are sprining up everywhere . i just got a bunch of stuff from them in their store. tokk a day to order and BANG they were there!
I went to O'Rielly's and got a pretty good deal. If you the pads from them they give you 10% off all the brake parts you buy. Funny thing, no one is taking cores any more, what is going to happen in the future when we need these parts, I realize that will take years but it seems funny to me.
Raybestos has just lowered there price on front rotors. I just paid 34.95 each for new rotors, I am redoing both front and rear brakes. I will probabily rebuild the calipers myself.
for you guys that have 4 wheel discs....what master cylinder are you using? This is for manual brakes only. Is it for the Versailles? Our parts people around here are about as sharp as a bowling ball and you have to tell them exactly what master cylinder you want (e.g. application) rather than ask them what would be best. Thanks in advance
