I've been shopping for some wheels and finally have them money and found a nice set that I liked. The problem is the backspacing reads as 4.75, which I would think is too much for a Mav, but since it fits a 64-73 Mustang I'm not sure. Here's a link. And to the actual, non e-bay site, heres another link. Wheel sizing just confuses me and the actual wheel fit on mavericks is odd to me. I wish there was a local store that had them so I could just test fit, but no luck.
I think you would have a problem with that rubbing the rear springs. Mavs have a lot of room outboard. I used to work for Goodyear and have fitted a lot of cars. You really are best off to do it in person, and don't assume if it fits one side, the other will be the same either, measure everything ... twice.
4.25 is about the most backspacing these cars can handle. 4.5 will work, but only with certain profile tires.
I have one more question, what about if the same wheel but in a 6mm offset but only 4.25" backspacing? As you can see I really like the look of the wheels .
Some of the early wheels (pre 1968) will not fit over the later disc brake calipers. I also recall that starting in 1972? that the center hub got larger. Will physically bolt up, but the weight will be riding on the lugs entirely.
isnt that how they are on the rear drums though? i could be wrong but theres no grease cap in the middle?
1974 was the first year for disc's, there is no way you can put a 70-73 Maverick steel wheel on Maverick disc's, unless you have a grinder.
