I've got a 77 4dr Mav and a 77 4dr Comet. The Mav will become a parts donor to the Comet. I used to have a 75 2 dr Mav. How about it ? What do you have and what's your preference. I've always been partial to 2drs but this Comet is really solid and very restorable.
I have a 77' maverick two door and a 76' Maverick two door. You could say I like the two doors for their sporty looks, but I like the four doors as well. I would'nt mind having a four door right now so I can get the 76' finished and still have a car I can take to the grocery store. You know how nasty those shopping carts can be.
i have a 71 grabber, 351w and a 73 2dr that i bought from corbin johnson. also a 64 fairlane 2dr sedan, 62 falcon ranchero, 78 mustang II cobra, and a few of the other brand names.
Well, personally, I like the 2-doors much better than the four doors, and Mavericks more than Comets. I am also partial to the small bumper cars vs. the big bumpers. But it all depends on what you want to do with the car. Personal preference should be the deciding point in what car you fix up. All I can do is offer an opinion, but it's up to you to make the final decision. All we have ever owned is 2-doors, and I like them alot. Each body style has their advantages, but each has disadvantages as well. Just think about what you want to do with it, and go from there. -Corbin
I like the 4-doors for sentimental reasons, primarily. My first car when I was 16 was a '74 4-door (R.I.P.). That, and I figure with all the 2-door fanatics sending 4-doors to the crusher, they'll become increasingly rare and sought after, and I can sell mine and retire on the profit Yeah, right.
I have a '69.5, set up to look like a '72 Grabber. I like the 2dr body much better than the 4dr, but each to their own. My car has come from a junkyard reject, being driven to the crusher when I bought it, to a fairly nice car. I put a 302 in, C4, air, and redid the interior. It is Grabber Green, without the grabber stripes. There is a girl around that has a butterscotch 4dr that is very nice. Don't know if she is on the boards, but the car looks stock, and like new. Earl
Even though I like the Comet more than the Maverick, I have 3 Mavericks, all 2drs. a 71, 72 Sprint, and a 77.
I have always prefered the 2 door models. I have always seen 4 door cars (not being specific to the mav/comet) as family cars best left to those with a family. It is for that reason I have stayed as far away as 4 door cars as I can. I have no probs with a family, and infact will likely start one soon, but I told my wife that either the car seat goes into the back of my convertible 5.0 mustang, or the maverick, or she can drive the family car. I will not give in to a 4 door or a minivan! Works out though, cause she prefers 4 door cars for utility reasons.
My Stallion is a 2 door and the styling is obviously better. I really wouldn't mind having a 4 door for a daily driver. Maybe someday.
Two door all the way!!! I presently own five 2-door cars, four 71 Grabbers and a 72 Grabber parts car. I've bought a few 4-door cars over the years but it is only to part them out...yep...making them even more rare. I really don't like the big bumper cars at all, I guess just because they look so bulky although I wouldn't mind owning a 76 302 Stallion. All of my cars have 302's with automatics...the only way to go, at least in my opinion. I never did like the styling difference of the 4-door car. I mean it's more than just an extra door...the entire shape just isn't as sleek or sporty as the 2-door car. I know there's the issue of the roominess but you'd be surprised what can be accomplished in the back seat of a 71 Grabber...or at least in my younger days. To each his own!!! Ray
2-Door vs. 4-Door For daily driving, nothing beats a 4-door! They ride really smooth. You can let people in the car without getting out, or just throw groceries in the back seat. For the styling and to get the looks from people, the obvious winner is the 2-door. (I have four of each body styles right now, so I'm kind of torn between them). -Doug
4 dr's are family cars (grocery getters as the slang goes) they can hold 6 people comfortably providing they have a bench seat in the front, but me personally i prefer the 2 dr they have that sporty style to them, my neighbor around the corner has a brown 74 4 Dr doesn't drive it much though. Stock 4 dr's are ugly IMO but I have seen some nice decked out ones before it's all about how creative the owner wants to be
