HI all, I am going to replace the door hinge pins on the 74 comet 2-door.....I searched for a thread but did not find one.....Are there any easy ways to this???????....advice appreciated..Robert
First thing you need to do is remove the hinge from the car door and put it in a vise. Grind off the head of the pin and then take a punch and a hammer and knock out the old pin. Then knock out the old bushing and put in the new one. Hammer in the new pin and you are done.
robert, i took the door off the hinge and left the hinge on the car. then cut the head off the pin, knocked the pin and bushings out. put the new bushings in and the pin back in. the hard part is putting the door on and linning it up. took a while but if you mark the hinge before you take it off it will have a good starting point...frank...
Where does one find pins and bushings? Are they readily available? My '70 drivers door is now drooping and I would like to get it done before the paint job. Scott
where?? somewhere on this board I read that a hinge pin found in the help section of the local parts house would work, you just had to cut the pin a bit shorter.....that is what I was planning to do........I'm guessing from a mustang application......Robert
Autokrafters have them, but they are help parts. And you can take out one hinge at a time from under the fender, take avay the plastic splash shield, and it is obvious. It helps to loosen the bolts a little from outside with the door open, if they are real tight. But keep the door shut while you are working. You might have to get at the plate where the bolts tighten on the inside so do keep the other door accessible.
