Does anyone know if some early year doors are different from 73 or later models? I think some mirror types and opening handles are different but is there anything else and are the before mentioned true! Thanks for any input gang!

    door swap

72 and older doors will fit a 73+. If you look at the inside, you will see the impression where the lower door handle would go. You can cut it out and swap the mechanism from your newer door. This comes from "experience"! In 85, I bought 2 perfect doors for my 73, in case I ever needed them. I never realized the difference until 2 years ago! I lucked out by finding a perfect set of newer doors, so I still have those 72 doors in case!

Ponydoc, you the man! That's the info I needed. I can only find some older doors around here. It seems everyone is crushing in the salvage yards and Mav's and Comets were the first in line to go.

My 72 didn't have them but, my buddys 72 comet does. so sometime in 72 production they started putting them in. To play it safe I said 73.

They sure do make the door alot heaverier. I'd try to find the lighter ones if possible.

Know why the Honda had to be towed away? Because the Maverick was made out of real American steel while the Honda was made out of recycled tuna cans. You just can't beat a well made American car.:p
