I tried to open my passenger side door tonight after locking, and it would not open from either the inside or outside. The handles don't feel like they pull anything. I don't know if anyone else has had this type of problem, but the door is stuck shut. can I get the trim panel off with the door shut? I don't know what to do!

yea you can get it off with the door closed, you just take two deep sockets and take off the pad (not sure what size sockets) the off with the plastic piece behind the arm pad. Take off the window roller, it is held on by one screw behind a silver sticker in the middle, be carefull taking the sticker off as you will need to reuse it, fingernail might get it off. There should also be a single Philips screw holding on the chrome door opener. Once all of these parts are off take a really long flathead screwdriver and push it behind the panel till you find a clip and just pop them out, there are quite a few. Pretty easy when you get the hang of it. After that just follow the linkage around and see what came loose. Oh yea, leave your window up, I played with mine and pinched my finger really hard. Ouch!

I ran into this problem after I relaced the exterior door handles on my 77. The linkage which goes from the exterior button, up to the locking mechanism must have no pressure on it when you slip it into the lock side. In my case I had to put slight up pressure on it to slip it back in the lock arm. Everything worked great untill I went to the store and locked the car up. When I returned, I couldnt get it unlocked. I ended up breaking out the side window and crawling through it to drive the car home.
