I need to replace my window crank gear regulator, as it is missing some teeth on the gear and slips at the top of the travel. The window has plastic like clips to hold it in, How do I get these things out, and then how do i get it back in there and lock. Also how does the window fit through the door opening.:( :( :(

I've been told you can drive the pins out pretty easily, but I haven't ever tried this. I have pushed one out from the behind the glass inward, but it was a real p.i.t.a. Worst case you drill them out and get some new ones at an automotive glass place. As far as the regulator itself, on early mavs they're bolted in. On the 77 (and possible 74-76 as well, but I haven't seen them personally) the regulator has rivets in the front 4 holes by the crank instead of bolts, so you have to grind them off (fortunately they are aluminum, so it's easy to do) and replace them with bolts/lock washers/nuts or find rivets large enough to hold it in (good luck). As far as getting the glass out, once it's off the regulator, it's fairly easy to get out of the track and out of the door, just kind of tilt it to the front or back when it gets to the top of the track. Getting it back in is basically the opposite but a little trickier.

The center pins in the clips that hold the window can either be pushed in or pulled out whichever is easier. On a couple of the newer pind in my car the pins had shoulders on them so I tried pulling them out. I ended up rounding off the shoulders trying to pull them out and ended up pushing them in. I just did it a couple weeks ago, I too had to ask here for help even though I had done it years ago and forgot how it worked.

That is why I was confused on your original post Ryan. Mine have shoulders on them, and I couldn't figure out how you'd push them through. I know one of them (can't recall if it's front or back) is very hard to get to to behind the regulator to push it from the outside of the door. I guess the best thing to do is get a handful from the glass place and not worry about getting them out intact. :D

both pins are pretty easy to puch in form the outside. If oyu have the window about 3/4 of the way up you ccan line thi pins up with the holes in the doosr and have a direct line to the pins.

I might... I just relaced my driver's door, but I am not 100% on the health of the regulator in the new door. If you can't find one, email me and I'll get back to you. The one I have is from a 77.
