I thought I had posted this years ago, but can't find it. We started talking about this on the Maverick drag racing Facebook page this weekend and wanted to get more input. What are the earliest build Mavericks that are known to exist out there? I have a 100009 car built 3/14/69 St. Thomas plant. Thoughts?
You have the earliest VIN I've seen, BUT 0K91T100012 is in this board's regestered VIN numbers. What we don't know is when Kansas City production began. I do know KC was still building Fairlane/Torino into first week of March. I suppose it boils down to amount of time change over required, parts supply etc. Generally numbers less than 100100 are pre production units built for model introduction, press use etc. http://mmb.maverick.to/resources/1969-5-models.204/
I wondered about the pre production when I saw the dealer was labor relations. Wonder if it was given to the union to use.
I'd guess was a motorpool vehicle used by Ford employees in the Labor Relations dept. Most all the offices & assembly plants had a motorpool that vehicles could be used when needing transportation on company business. Around 25 years ago I had a '87 Turbo Coupe with DSO 89, built at Lorain OH, it wasn't rusty. I'm guessing it was assigned to Norfolk assembly(five miles from me), then sold off when '88 models arrived. Was basic model without sunroof, electronic climate control, premium sound with EQ, leather, etc that most had. I was looking for one in this configuration to do my 5.0 swap. Found a '88 in better cond, but ticking engine(worn cam) at half the price, sold the '87. BTW Norfolk only built F-150/250, AFAIK plants/offices had several different models Ford produced in their motorpool.
