So, Eaton advertises their posi LSD units for light duty trucks, classic cars and tarmac racing. They make a GM 10.5" LSD unit which fits my 1-ton, full floater dually, but I would not consider my 1-ton towing a 8,000lb trailer a light duty application. My truck does not have 4WD and would never be off-roading or anything. http://www.drivetrainamerica.com/p-770-19689-010-eaton-posi-gm-chevy-105-14-bolt-lsd-410d.aspx I am probably getting stuck up in their wording, is anyone else running a Eaton LSD in their tow rig? My logic is: if they make it for my rear, it would be beefy enough to handle the intended use for trucks using that rear. Any thoughts? Thanks!
You got to remember they pretty much consider any truck under the 1 1/2 ton weight rating a light duty pickup truck no matter how much you haul. The medium duty trucks start out at the Ford F450 and go up until you get the actual big rigs. No I am not talking about the 2 ton freightliners/fords/topkicks ect running around as being big rigs those are medium duty trucks too.
Well, turns out in order for our truck to drop from 4.56 to 4.10 (we really need the new gear for highway driving), the carrier break means new posi unit, gears and master rebuild kit. That's a whopping $1500 in parts plus labor. So now we may be looking at a $3,100 Gear Vendors for our 4L80E. Hmmmm....
