I have a 1970 Grabber with a voltage surge issue. When the light are on, give it gas they are bright, let it idle they go dim. I've changed the alternator and voltage regulator, even swapped to an internally regulated alternator and still have the same issue. The radio will even go off and come back on when I clutch to change gears. Don't know what else to look at. Any ideas?

Clean your main ground wire connections. Also clean the battery posts and if no difference try another battery that you know is good.

what engine do you have that requires...1000 RPMs at idle?
have you checked the alt. to see if it's charging at full voltage?

Do you have underdrive pulleys?? At 1000 RPM alternator should supply enough current to operate all accessories...

If battery voltage is less than 12v with engine off & headlights on, you likely have a failing battery...

Also check the ground wires at the head lights. I had one head light that was doing the same thing, that was the fix

Thanks guys, I've started tracking all my grounds down and hopefully I'll find my issue. I'll let you all know when i find it.
