does anyone know if you can swap out a 6 cyl (200) with an 8 cyl (302)...i'm wanting to convert the 3 speed floor shift 200cid with a 302 without any major retrofitting?

Every part of the mechanical clutch linkage inside the engine compartment is different for an 8 cylinder. If you want to keep the 3-speed you would need all these parts. Dan

Probably 75% of the people on this board have done just that, including myself, but it's a whole lot easier, cheaper and quicker just to find a V8 car to start with.

V8 / 3-speed cars are particularly rare. Generally when a Maverick order was upgraded to include a V8 the C-4 was usually thrown in the package as well. I have personally seen 2 - my own 73 with a 302 and 3-on-the-tree and a 72 Grabber several years ago with a 302 3-speed floor shift. This is why finding the V8 mechanical linkage is rather difficult. The z-bar is available reproduction but the brackets and related parts are difficult to come by.

Nerpeace - look through the boards. You will need the motor and tranny mounts, radiator, etc ... as well.

Thanks Guys...just the type of info I needed to make a decision. I agree, it probably better to keep looking for the 302 w/3 speed floor shift.
