Found this site while surfing, I have a 1970 Maverick that came with a straight 6 & 3 speed trans. I have a 302 built aand a C-4 trans. I have purchased the frame mounts & motor mounts but was told that I may have to change the crossmember and driveshaft, a new cable for gas pedal and I am having trouble finding pulleys to match up for this motor which haas been narrowed down to a 1973-1976 by Ford Motorsports and further narrowed to a late 74-1976 via the small size of the spark plugs. I need some serious help!

Hello, and welcome to the site. Quite a lot of experts here with the Maverick. You will find that a whole lot of people here have done the 6 to 8 conversion(mine came with an 8). And they all say it is fairly easy and straight forward. Good luck, I am sure you will get a bunch of good answers.

    Thanks Jeremy,

I hope to get some help here and also maybe some leads on where to get some parts. Called every every wrecking yard on this island and nobody has any parts that go back this far. One guy laughed when I told him I was looking for Maverick parts!

But when it's said and done my Blue Thunder will turn some heads and will send some Chevy's home on the trailer while I will still drive mine home.

The transmission crossmember will fit from the 6 cyl but you need the V8 for exhaust clearence. The 6 cyl dosent have the hump on the left side for pipe clearence. The trans crossmember is reproduced. I will look for who makes it and post it later. The drive shaft will work just fine. My Maverick went from a 200 / 3 sp, to a 302 / c4, to a 302 / T10 4 spd, finally to a 302 / toploader 4 sp and 9" rear and the same drive shaft fit them all. I had a stronger one built for the latest rebuild because of the power I now have, but the original one bolted right up. Your 6 cyl throttle cable will work on the 302 but it is a little long. Just put a little loop in it. I did this on my 77 and it works fine. You will need the bracket that bolts to the manifold and end of the cable. I had the same problem with pullies on my 77. I just went to a yard and found a complete motor with all the accessories I had and got all the pullies, brackets and hardware. My 77 has factory air and power steering. I found a 69 Mustang with the same stuff and it worked out great. Note what year and model it came from because you might have to get an alternator and/or water pump if yours is different.
