I finally got the electric fuel pump hooked up on my truck. I went to drive it and heard a tap at about 2500 rpm. It hols good oil pressure and does not tap until about 2500 rpm. My dad told me it might be a loose rocker arm. I checked and all were torqued to 45lb. I am thinking possibly a bad lifter. It does not sound like a rod knock. Anybody else have any ideas

the lifter could have weak springs, try adding some marvel mystery oil to the oil and see if that helps. also is the oil clean and thick enough? (synth is usally thinner even when it lists as the same weight) also it could be an exhaust leak at the manifold gasket (mine was ticking at higher rpm due to there being more pressure)

I am running standard 20w50 in it. I don't believe there is any exhaust leaks. I recently put a set of headers gaskets on it

Pour a little tranny fluid through the carb, sometimes it'll quiet ticky lifters.Smoke show is a free by-product.

I'd check the header gaskets again. Mine seem to loosen up a bit after a while. :)

did you try using a screw driver like a stethiscope and localize it?
