I Was wondering if a new Kenwood will fit the AM bezel and bolt to the support in the back, It's a 72 comet. Thinking about a couple Boston Acoustics 6x9's in the back think these will sound o.k with no other speakers. other than the one in the front dash.

Yes....it will go in there. I have a Kenwood Deck in mine. You will need to cut the bezel obviously. You may need to bend the bracket in the back or use the piece of plumber's strap that comes with the radio (I can't remember what I did).

    Rear speakers should be good.

Do a search on the front speaker install I did.

I cut my bezel with t sawzall and kept filing on it until the "holster" fit pretty tight. Then I pressed out the tabs and installed the new deck THROUGH the hole. I had to run a self tapping 7/16 screw into the center of the back and put a threaded rod about 3 inches long in it secured with a nut at the base.
A wingnut secures it in the factory brace under the dash.

Install the bezel first...then the radio...then the wingnut.

i just trimmed the bezel to fit the "holster", pushed out the tabs nice and tight, then slid a sony deck in. no bracing on the back, and it worked great for about 2 years, but somebody broke into the comet about a week ago and gripped my deck and broke the sh*t out of my bezel. anybody have a spare that stands to be trimmed?

I used a dremel tool to trim my bezel out. Deck fit in without any troubles
whatsoever. We put in an Eclispe head unit and Polk Audio 6x9's in the
back. Sounds pretty good to me. We'll put speakers in the front kick panels later. This was enough to get the boys some music. I told them
to listen to the engine.....what I do....

Here is my '72. I used a dremel to cut the bezel out also, and the factory support bracket just attached right to the rear of the head unit with a nut, no modifications.

Pioneer head unit, Sony 6x9 speakers in the rear, 5x5's in the front kick panels. Sounds great to me. Only thing is, I usually have to keep the fade slightly to the front to make the music sound like it's "even" throughout the interior of the car. When it's set equal front to rear, it sounds like the rear speakers are louder then the front.

The extra temp gauge was there temporarily, because I had yet to find a sending unit for the vintage Sun temp gauge.
