We put fire to the engine today and it cranked right up as soon as the gas hit the carb...ran for 20 seconds at idle...I never touched the pedal. Then shut down. On restart it sounds like it trying to start but wont catch then floods out.
This sounds like the float is stuck to me...but Im no mechanic.
Any ideas guys?...if it is stuck...how do I free it up?
Gettin excellent spark on the plugs if anyone is wanderin.

Another question?...do i run any risk of doin damage to the tranny buy running in park with only 4 quarts of fluid in it?...it was bone dry when we put it back on the engine.

    Thx Rick:rolleyes:

Yes, sounds like the float is sticking. Try taking a screw driver and tap on the float bowl with the handle. It may also just be out of adjustment.

Get fluid in the tranny ASAP!!!

I was gonna try tapping on the carb and kinking and releasing the fuel line...if that doesnt work gonna pull the airhog and check the floats....I got a feeling there stuck wide open.
I put 4 quarts in the tranny before doing anything...it blew a half quart back out while we were trying to crank it through the vent.
I didnt know if this was normal as its probably trying to purge air from it.
    Thx Rick

If you were blowing tranny fluid out a line you might want to re-check them. I dont remember having this problem with any of my automatics.

there is a vent tube that comes out of the top of the C4...this is were the fluid is coming from...I say its a vent tube because I have a C-4 sittin on the floor with a vent cap on it in the same place...maybe Im wrong...but it sure looks and moves like some sort of vent

It was blowin the tranny fluid because it was in gear when it started...as long as the column selctor is in park...the engine will start...we thought we had the selector on the tranny in park..but we didnt....no more probs after that...she topped off at 11 quarts.
The floats were stuck on the carb...a qwik rap with a wood mallet and wallah...started right up.
We set the timing and checked the vacuum...idle is right at 750 rpm.
Geez it sounds sweet...even with just the headers on it...the engine has a nice little lope to it. When I sit behind the wheel you know your sittin on raw power, when you give it a little gas... OMG!!!
Cant wait to get the tranny linkage hooked up to give it a spin.:bananaman
I'll get some pics tomorrow with the engine installed.
