    Hey guys,

Do any of you have information or opinions on the 2001-2003 Explorer Sports. I'm looking for a daily driver. I know they can't tow another car, but I figured the gas mileage would be better than a 98-01 Explorer 4dr 5.0 V8. All the sports have a 4.0 L engine. Basicly I want to know are these good vehicles is the engine good and reliable? any information would be helpful.

Below is a picture of one.

    Thanks

Daughter had a ranger with tha 4.0 , bought new , put 215000 miles on it still had original starter,compresser,waterpump,plugs/wires,transmisssion never filter or fluid change, altanater, hoses, etc. The only thing it ever had was a new belt, termastat, air filter, 5 sets of front brakes(no back brakes change) some little valve that went on her master cly. that was partof croise control, and didn't use any oil between changes!

I'd say the 5.0 is more economical than the 4.0 . My mom drives one of those, the only thing it has needed is a new IAC valve and you'll have to rev the engine at stops to avoid stalling the damn thing.

I had an Explorer Sport 4x2 I believe the same motor thought the exploer was a 94 I loved that thing, Mine had a 5 speed,

Economy is a relative term , to you this might be economical compared to driving a bigger SUV with a V-8. I drove mine 70 miles round trip daily for 2 years, had 89k when I bought it. never a problem, However For MY budget, I needed even more economy, traded it off on a 5 speed 93 Deathscort GT ( sweet car)

They are also available in 4X4. I'm only interested in a 4X2.
