Trashed My TransHi there....remember my starter problem?......I had to shim it. Well, The flex plate I bought from Summit....the Ford Motor Sport 50 oz. 157 tooth for the c-4 has trashed my transmission. Every thing needs replaced....well after the rebuild it turns out the flex plate was the cause of self destruction. The tans shop said the car was done and they had to use a stock flex p lae because the one I had was rubbing the on the engine. I was like wait.... I'm not even going to pick up the car that's a late modle motor and you've put the wrong flex plate on it. I went and picked up my flex plate and now I was hopin some one had any thoughts. Oh, I checked it out because ZI trust no one....and the weight on it is 3/16" past the plane of the surface that sits on the crank shaft. Clearly this is a defect. I'm thinking that I can buy a new one localy and get a refund for the f-ed-up one. Also, do you think I can get compensation for the trasheed trans?

    That's messed up...

Why wouldn't the Ford flex plate work for the engine it was designed for? Definitly sounds like a mistake or mess up to me. I think you should definitly contact ford and see what they can say or do about their flex plate problem. Let us know how it works out. I purchased the B&M Flex plate for me 5.0 and transmission. After istallation, I spun the engine over a couple times to check clearance and it was not close to touching the engine. Also after putting it in the car, and turning it over, there is no scraping and the starter engages fine. Contact them, and let us know what happens.

    well

I went to Colorado Mustang today and bought another FMS flex plate.....it too is imperfect. The weight on this one is only 1/16" out of wack. I'm kinda sure that it will work....just in case I scrounged up a shim/spacer that came from a straight six. This shim goes between the crank and the flex plate. I want to avoid all rigging but I also want to know if the use of this shim on a 302 will hurt things?

I'll let ya'll know what hapens with the return of the really messed up one. I'm going to call FMS on Monday before I return it and before I use the new one.

    Flexplate ???

The 50oz is a AOD setup with a different damper up front. The 50oz has different torque conv stud holes, if I remember right.
If the flexplate is out of balance that'll hurt engine main bearing and trans parts.
If it rubbed on the engine you'll see rub marks on the engine & flexplate?
Take the old flexplate (trashed one) and a C-4 flexplate and lay them teeth down on a flat surface. Then measure the height to the crankshaft mounting surface.
What part of the starter did it hurt? Where was it rubbing at?
