Dont' take me wrong, but only you can answer that question.

If you want it, get it.

I suspect those cars will have a newfound respect one day (like the Mavericks). Personally, I like the styling (of course I'd have to change out those 13" wheels and go to a 302 eventually).

A friend of mine had one...a '78 Cobra II. Fun car to drive. His was all original body which was flawless but he swapped in a blown EFI 5.0 and TKO. I think they look fine when done up right.

There was a '78 fastback across from a gas station at a neighborhood for years. Finally, one day it was gone...a month later it was back sporting new candy red paint. come to find out, he swapped in a modded Turbocoupe 2.3L four banger. Holley commander 950 EFI, T3/T4 turbocharger...the whole deal. Esslinger head....I never saw him drive it hard, but I'm sure it would haul the mail. A couple weeks ago I saw it at the same house, and the front end was bashed in. Looks like the body is going to be a total loss. I liked the look of that car in the red paint...and I believe it had some Pro Star wheels on it...at least thats what they looked like from a distance.

Those cars aren't heavy so a 302 and a 5 speed will make them move.

m2's really are not a bad looking car, i like them alot more than the fox's body style, If the body's good i'd say it was worth it. im sure there arent too many 30 year old cars that far north in good shape, for 500 anyway. as far as value, i think anything "mustang", even the m2's will always have a market, probably more than our mavericks ever will

I agree with Mr Book on this one, if you want it, and can afford it, get it. One day these cars may be more popular, especially the fastbacks. I see them on ebay every once in a while bring pretty good bucks, but not as much as a 65-73 or even a fox body. With a V8 they can be pretty fast, and already have a good front end under them. They are like Mavericks, prone to rust out, so I'd check it out good. Doubt there are any replacement body panels, either, due to the small market for them, but that could change.

Just what do they consider "solid" in Maine? I have talked to guys up north that consider a car with 3+ inch holes in the quarter panels to be "solid", just because the entire car hasn't turned to dust yet.

To me, Mustang II's are good for parts. They just don't do it for me. They meet the crusher by the dozens around here. I have seen a Cobra around here several times and it was pretty cool, though.

All I can say is if you like the car, and it really is solid, then go for it.
