That might be GT40P engine, and will not fit without exhaust issues.

Otherwise it sounds like a good deal. You could swap the heads out and be just fine.

is this the engine that has plug/header interference issues? it was built on 11-22-96 if that makes a difference

Look at the front of the heads. P heads have four cast in vertical bars, GT40 heaads have three bars. Personally, I wouldn't pay $500 for an 11 year old stock small block.

well the intake alone is worth 150-200 for anyone with a 5.0 EFI car. not to mention the heads are pretty good (for stock), and is complete from serpentine belt to flywheel.... plus the ECU, starter and wiring

i just figured it would be a nice upgrade for one of my cars

GT40P heads came on 1998-2001 Explorers.

$500 is a great deal for a complete Explorer 5.0. I'd snatch it up in a heart beat. They go for 800 to 1200 around here, depending on mileage.

ya definatly a good deal and more then likley it'll have the GT40 non-P heads.

the top eng of that motor is worth the asking price, then you could just scrap the rest of the car for profit at the very least

not that theres anything wrong with the P heads, its just hard to get headers for them. the normal GTs look like any other windsor v8 head but with the markings in the front

GT40 heads run very good...and tend to run $200-300 a set, so that, and $200 for the intake, and you get free roller block and serpentine, etc.

I would snatch it even if I wasn't going to use it.
