... I had to put the air compressor on it to pop out a dent in one corner because it got hit by a car after it fell out of whatever it was on before... My question is "What is up with the red plug in the cap? and what do I use for a spigot?" Interestingly, my garage was "entered" a few weeks back and 3 full 5-gallon gas cans were stolen. Hurricane reserves with 2-year Sta-bil added. I have since found 3 gas cans of various sizes and shapes on the side of the road...:bananaman Good karma, I guess...
The red plug in the lid can be removed and a fitting with a hose attached to it allows you to poor the fuel.
good karma and I can't believe that they got you too. I was hit the 31 of December and the got a full bag of tools. I didn't make big a deal about it but made a police report anyway. I went to work and started to look at my receipts and found out that I had about 4500.00 in tools in that bag.
Damn, Roland, THAT really sucks. I made a police report, and have since found that it is most likely the garbage guys. They cruise around the block an extra time, one guy hops off and snags stuff out of the garage, and toss it in the trash truck. Then they drive off and unload it at a safe place. There have been several police reports suggesting it is them. After I made my report, the "head honcho" from the trash truck place visited my house and reported that several people have installed cameras to catch the guys in the act... By the way, I just paid $2.80 to make the spigot for it.
I was thinking maverick, jet ski, lawn mower, emergency power generator, etc. The jugs you buy nowadays from walmart have those crappy spring loaded stiff hoses. I cannot stand them. I throw those hoses away and just use the cap as a cap. I have one hose that was not stolen, the accordian hose that slips up and down into the can when not in use. I rotate it around from can to can (before they were stolen). I think I will cap off my walmart cans and put the gas into this can for distribution to the various machines. Might even buy 2 or 3 more of these. I like how they are taller with a narrower base, so I can get more along my garage wall.
Just be careful when filling smaller tanks. Once you open the vent at the top of the handle the fuel really flows. Will fill a lawn mower in a hurry. The handle also makes it easy to strap (or chain) into the back of the truck
i just go to home depot and buy a plastic nipple about 2-3" long and put a piece of clear plastic hose on with a clamp. you can make it as long as you want.
Have to watch on new fuel jugs. Some have the vent inside the hose an a real pia! Summit has that type, thinking I bought from Jegs with external vent (better type) EPA did this, I was at the Summit store an they said EPA came in there and took all the ext vent jugs, said they are now illegal. Was surprised when I was still able to buy one! Thinking back now, external vent jugs are not sold as fuel jugs just liquid haulers!
Mine has a small screw-top vent on the top between the cap and handle. I could probably open it a hair to slow down the flow for filling smaller tanks, such as my lawn mower.
