my brother is giving me the the rims off his 2004 40th aniversary mustang;there 16 inch rims. my dad says that the 16s will throw off my speedometer. i got 14s on my car now. would the bigger rims make that much of a difference? http://www.webphantasia.com/blaze/images/rw__1979.JPG this car has the same rims my brother has on his car
theres a formula out there to calculate what speedo gear you may or may not need to change to its not the rim size that matters but the overall diameter of the tire. compare the diameter of the mustang tires to your mavericks and see how diffrent they are
how would the rims look on my car, i thinks they'll look nice but not sure. going to have the mav repainted when summer comes back around
Those rims wouldn't look worth a darn on your car. Since they were free you can pass them on to me and I'll suffer the ridicule of running an "ugly" wheel. Really I think they will good on your car, but remember you will have to run spacers to get the backspacing where they are supposed to be. I'm not sure of the exact spacing but some on here have run mustang rims and ought to be able to get you close.
I run 1.5" spacers on my 17x8s which are from an '06 or '07 Mustang. You might get by with 1" since there's slightly less backspacing on your wheels, but measure first. Your potential places of interference will be the leaf spring, the rear bump stop, and I believe the tie rod end. My stock Mustang GT tires are 235/55 and almost 27" overall in diameter. There's room for more width in the rear but I can't see anything bigger fitting in the front without rubbing. My speedometer is 6 miles slow at 70mph. (Difference will be greater at 80, less at 60). Since I know that, the speedometer thing doesn't bother me much but replacing the gear is cheap and easy.
The ones your brother was going to give you, in that picture. She said they were nice but she wants 17s or 18s on her car next. Not sure which, and still scoping out cars in parking lots that have the right stance.
